Message And with all guidelines, it is not absolute.

Your experience was exceptional and as you have said yourself is no longer available. Whereas most privately owned spots you can talk to the guy for a few minutes, most chain shops the guy cant be bothered and just tells you what he knows you want to hear because he has to pump out 20 cars in 9 hours to earn a check.

In talking to the independent guy you can typically tell if you are dealing with someone who is either competent or at the least has experience dealing with Z cars. If you walk into a mom and pop shop and can plainly see they have crap equipment and dont take pride in what they do, then walk away. They wont be in business long unless they are catering to those who dont care, in which case you do not apply.

I see nothing elitist about this approach, perhaps you simply are upset that I said something that was contrary to what your past experience has been, in which case I'm sorry if that offends you.

If I took the time to tally up my chain store experiences vs independent shop experiences, the results would be more than slightly skewed. It is for this reason that for the great many things I cannot do for myself, I absolutely avoid chain stores and dealerships if at all possible.
